Amazon Leo Internet is coming!

Here's what we know!

Amazon Leo is expected to launch mid 2026 in these countries - U.S., Canada, U.K., France, and Germany.

For New Zealand Amazon has not announced a launch date, but based on the current rollout plan it is most likely to be available in 2027–2028.

Pricing.

Amazon has repeatedly emphasised that affordability is a core goal. Amazon will need to win market share from Starlink which already has a strong presence in New Zealand. It is presumed that Amazon will launch with something like:

NZ - around $499 hardware

NZ - around $99–$119/month unlimited plan

That would put meaningful pressure on Starlink to respond.

Amazon Leo's product lineup is shaping up to be quite similar to Starlink's, with three main terminal types announced so far, here are the three offerings below:

Leo Nano
Leo Nano
Entry-level residential.

Small 7-inch square terminal.

Around 100 Mbps download speeds.

Designed for cost-conscious households.

Also suitable for connectivity for remote equipment, remote monitoring, and mobile applications.

For many rural NZ users this could become the direct competitor to Starlink Mini.

Leo Pro
Leo Pro
Standard residential & small business

Roughly 11-inch square terminal.

Up to 400 Mbps speeds.

Expected to be the mainstream residential product.

This is likely the model most NZ farms and rural homes would buy.

Leo Ultra
Leo Ultra
Enterprise

Large 20–30 inch class antenna.

Up to 1 Gbps download and around 400 Mbps upload capability.

Intended for businesses, telecommunications providers, government, and high-demand users.

This would be the equivalent of Starlink's enterprise offerings.
